Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, hands-on technique designed to enhance the body’s natural lymphatic system. The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in maintaining fluid balance, supporting immune function, and optimal toxin removal. MLD specifically targets the lymphatic vessels, helping to reduce swelling, improve circulation, and promote overall well being.
Enhance your bodys natural detox process
-
During an MLD session, we use light, rhythmic strokes to stimulate the lymphatic system. These techniques encourage the movement of lymph fluid, aiding in its natural drainage toward the lymph nodes. This process can help alleviate conditions such as swelling due to injury or post-surgery, as well as chronic issues related to the lymphatic system.
-
MLD is suitable for individuals of all ages, including those recovering from surgery, experiencing lymphedema, or suffering from chronic pain and stress. Additionally, it can help those with bloating and digestive issues or hormonal concerns causing water retention, fatigue or overall inflammation.
-
A typical MLD session lasts between 45 to 60 minutes. A brief medical history will be taken and any questions or concerns addressed to create the best treatment plan for you. You will be asked to undress to suitable under garments, or what you feel comfortable depending on areas of focus or concern. Treatment consists of specialized strokes and techniques to work on specific areas of the body, focusing on your individual needs. Many clients report feeling relaxed and rejuvenated immediately after treatment.
-
We usually need to see the area of concern and advise appropriate clothing such as shorts or sports bras, however, we can work around clothing if you that makes you feel more comfortable! We will use towels to cover areas when we are not working on them to maintain modesty. It is advised to wear loose clothing to allow the better lymphatic flow afterwards.
-
After your session, it’s important to drink plenty of water to support the detoxification process. You may also be advised to avoid intense physical activity for the remainder of the day to allow your body to fully benefit from the treatment.
You will be given stretches or drainage techniques as well as advice on any lifestyle changes, nutrition, stress management and sleep according to your specific needs.
